SAINT JOHN, N.B. — A hat trick from Riley Bissett and a six-point outing by Drew Mason powered the Saint John Rapids to a 10-8 win over the Sackville Sportwheels Wolves in East Coast Junior Lacrosse League action Saturday afternoon at Lord Beaverbrook Arena.
The Rapids came out flying with six first-period goals, including two from Bissett and one each from Morgan MacKinnon, Chase Aldridge, Mason, and Joseph Webster. Saint John led 6-4 after one and never trailed the rest of the way.
Mason added his second of the game in the second period and picked up four assists overall. Aldridge matched Bissett with a hat trick of his own, including a key power-play marker in the third to help hold off a late Wolves push.
Ty Wheatley led Sackville with a goal and four assists, while Jack McKay notched a hat trick and an assist in the loss. The Wolves outscored the Rapids 4-2 in the final frame but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Goaltender Ethan Rowbotham made 45 saves on 53 shots for Saint John, while Sackville’s Aiden Doyle stopped 47 of 57.
The Rapids improve to 2-1 on the season and now hit the road for a two-game weekend:
