FREDERICTON, N.B. — Drew Mason scored five times and added two assists to lead Team Blue past Team Green 12-7 in the Saint John Rapids Intersquad Game at the Aitken Centre on Sunday afternoon, wrapping up Week 1 of training camp.
Mason opened the scoring in the first quarter and helped power Team Blue’s six-goal second frame, where they pulled away for good. Alex Campbell added a goal and two assists, while Marky Surette netted a pair. Ayden McCaustlin, Nate Williams, Tyler Weldon and Hudson Scaplan also scored for Team Blue.
Team Green kept things close early, with first-quarter goals from Xavier Leblanc and Morgan MacKinnon tying the game at 2-2 after one. Felix Harding recorded a hat trick, including a shorthanded marker in the third quarter, while Riley Bissett and Joe Webster each added singles.
Team Blue outshot Team Green 43-41.
Between the pipes, Ethan Rowbotham made 18 saves on 21 shots for Team Blue, while Alex Lively turned aside 16 of 20. For Team Green, Chase Welton stopped 18 of 21 shots, Alexander Saulnier made seven saves on 13 attempts, and Alessandro Morandi finished with six saves on nine shots.
The Rapids will continue training camp with two sessions in Fredericton this week before making the first round of roster selections.
